Riley and Son purchased LMS 4-6-0 Black 5 Number 44871, the the fourth addition to our home stable, on Wednesday the 20th of September 2006 and 44871 has since been moved into our works for inspection prior to restoration to full mainline running condition, including fitment of AWS, TPWS and OTMR. At the moment we estimate she will be in running condition in early 2008.

44871 is now under heavy overhaul in our Bury works. Ongoing work at the moment includes:

* Air Brake Installation

* Removal and straightening of buffer beams

* Modifications to the injectors

* Rebuilding of the tender chassis

* Overhaul of the Valve Gear weigh shaft

* Tyre turning

44871's driving wheelset took its turn in the wheel lathe today, a photo of Riley himself is included below, togeather with some general photo's of the work that is going on.
